A Mad Men Moment: Mid Century Modern Josef Levi's work in the late-1960s and early- 1970s is primarily concerned with light and the optical effect of color. Signed on reverse, "Josef Levi 1971". 58 1/4" x 58 1/4" J osef Levi was born in New York City in 1938, and studied at the University of Connecticut and Columbia University. He traveled widely in Europe and the Middle East, and served in the US Army in the early 1960s. Levi's first one-man exhibition was held at Stable Galleries in 1966, and further one-man shows were held there in 1967, 1969 and 1970. In 1966 he was included in "Light in Art" at the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, and the following year he exhibited a fluorescent light work (with similar optical effects to this painting) in the influential exhibition "Light Motion Spac
